Do you really need to eat organic?

Last week, I told you about the cancer-fighting abilities of lemons and other citrus fruits. And I also gave a fun and tasty way to include lemons in your food. Many readers responded with an adamant "the lemons must be organic." But Chris Z. asked: "Do you really need to eat organic?" It's a good question.

In recent months, the mainstream media has published the results of studies that suggest organic foods aren't any healthier than non-organic foods. The studies give some good evidence that the nutritional value of non-organics is every bit as good as the organic fruits and vegetables. Even Dr. Oz said there's no need to eat organic.

Here's the problem: These studies looked only at nutrition. And they looked at only a few of the nutrients in non-organics. It's easy to pick and choose the nutrients with high levels in both foods. But the studies need to look deeper and see if all the nutrients are the same. They haven't done so yet.

The studies also haven't looked at the downside of non-organics. No one wants to eat pesticides, herbicides, and genetically modified foods. Even if the nutrition value of non-organics is just as high as organics, we can't ignore the damage these manmade solutions cause on the human body. But these studies do just that - they ignore the problems these foods cause.

Most people don't realize that biological weapons are just supped-up pesticides. They also don't know that the FDA classifies genetically modified foods as insecticides. I've done a lot of research on the origins and uses of pesticides, including their impact on animals and people. When you spray an insect with a pesticide, it attacks the insect's nervous system. We have a host of nerve-related diseases, including many auto-immune diseases that are nerve related. And many of these we rarely saw prior to the invention of pesticides.

Because of all this, I'm a huge fan of organic foods. Unfortunately, we can't all afford to eat organic. If you can, then by all means do so. But I would rather you eat non-organic fruits and vegetables than processed foods. If you can't buy organic fruits and veggies, you might consider taking .
