On Monday, I showed you how chlorella can significantly increase your brain power by detoxifying your body. It's only one of several products I recommend for removing toxins. The problem is we can never completely remove all the toxins in our body. We're exposed to them constantly. It's just about impossible to eliminate all of them. So it's vital you protect your cells against the toxins you do encounter. And a new study shows just how to do that.
A new study from the Indian Institute of Toxicology looked at how curcumin protects your cells from toxins, particularly mercury. As you may know, curcumin comes from the Indian spice turmeric. You've read a lot about turmeric's anti-inflammatory abilities in Nutrient Insider. And this anti-inflammatory ability makes turmeric incredibly adept at fighting pathogens as well as toxins.
Many in the medical community place enormous weight on a person's genetics. They say that genes determine so much about our lives. While this is true, genes are not the primary focus for good health. In fact, our health can change our genes. In order to figure out our health, we have to look on the cellular level. Cells hold the secret to good health. When cells become abnormal and don't die, we get cancer. When cells don't get the fuel they need, we become fatigued. And when toxins attack our cells, they can cause an enormous array of health problems.
Likewise, inflammation affects the cells. When something (accident, pathogens, or toxins) injures your cells, the cells release chemicals that cause blood vessels to leak fluid into the area. This fluid contains the elements needed to heal the area. If this fluid is filled with turmeric and other healing nutrients, they speed up the cells' healing. But if this fluid contains more toxins or pathogens, they can worsen the injury and cause the endless cycle we call chronic inflammation.

Turmeric's healing ability is well documented in hundreds of studies. But we're just now learning about this incredible compound's ability to protect the cells from injury in the first place. And this new study shows both of these abilities.
In this study, the researchers injected mice with mercuric chloride. This mercury injection caused severe oxidative stress. The study said this included "wracked lipid peroxidation, abnormal glutathione levels and destructive catalase activities in the liver, kidney and brain."
Then the researchers gave the mice 80 mg of curcumin for three days. What happened next is pretty amazing. Not surprisingly, the curcumin healed the oxidative stress. It completely reversed the biochemical changes the mercury caused. It also started to heal the liver and kidneys. The brain would take longer to show signs of repair. But it's likely they would find this healing as well.
The researchers also had a group of mice that received the curcumin prior to the mercury injection. They found that the curcumin protected their organs from damage in the first place. It wasn't able to completely eliminate the damage, but it did significantly decrease the damage after the injection.
What's more, the concentrations of mercury in the rats' tissues were significantly lower. So the curcumin acted as a detoxifying agent, preventing toxins from hanging out and causing chronic damage and inflammation.
All of this means that curcumin/turmeric is one of the most important nutrients you can take for preventing cellular damage from toxins, for healing previously damaged cells, and for removing toxins from your tissues.
This study used oral curcumin, which is important. Curcumin isn't easy to digest and absorb. The fact that it worked so well when they mice took it orally means there's an easy way to make it work even better. All you have to do is take a form that's easier to absorb. That's the form Advanced Bionutritionals uses in its Reduloxin. This formula contains Meriva® - a form of turmeric that's 29 times more readily absorbable than normal turmeric.
With the massive toxin overload our world has today, this could be one of the most important supplements you take.
