Why You Should Take These Nutrients With Fish Oil to Correct Brain Damage

Did you know that nutrients have the ability to fix brain damage? Whether the brain damage comes from a concussion, oxygen deprivation, stroke, or Alzheimer’s, research is showing that nutrients can help fix the damage.

In some cases, the nutrients can slow or halt the damage from getting worse. In other cases, it can completely reverse the damage. It sounds too good to be true, but science is showing us just how powerful nutrients are for protecting and treating your brain. Just ask Melissa.

Several years ago, Melissa was chasing her grandson through some playground equipment. She had her head down watching him, so she didn't see a low-hanging bar. Her head hit the bar with a thud and all of a sudden life changed. She hit the bar with enough force to cause a concussion, which can cause ongoing headaches, confusion, fogginess, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, and a host of other symptoms. Melissa was dazed and not herself when I talked to her.

It had been a few days since she hit her head. But she still wasn't feeling better. She asked me what she could do to alleviate the symptoms. I asked her if she was taking anything other than over-the-counter pain pills. She said she was taking turmeric and CoQ10. I said that was good, but asked her how much she was taking.

The dose of turmeric she was taking for head trauma wasn’t enough. I told her to take three to four capsules up to three times a day for a few days. This isn’t a dose you would need to take on an ongoing basis. It’s just to treat an injury. I’ve seen this work with everything from ankle sprains to head colds to other injuries like concussions. After upping her dose, Melissa was feeling more like her old self within a few days.

However, turmeric isn't enough to fully treat a severely traumatic brain injury. And it won’t completely stop the progression of Alzheimer’s. But combine it with a few other nutrients – and you have the potential for real miracles.

Start With High Doses of Fish Oil

There are several incredible stories I’ve told you in the past about the ability of fish oil to reverse severe brain injury. One was a Virginia high school teenager who was in a serious car accident that severely damaged his brain. Another was a West Virginia coal miner who almost died in a mining accident. He was severely brain damaged, in a coma, and on the verge of death — much like the teenager. But both of these brain injuries were almost completely healed using fish oil. Both of these men are leading relatively normal lives (the teenager still has some weakness on his left side) thanks to fish oil.

But as I’ve pointed out in the past, accidents aren't the only way we can experience severe brain trauma. Strokes and the wear and tear of life (including the threat of environmental toxins) on our brains can lead to dementia and Alzheimer's. Two studies found that fish oil can protect the cells in our brain. One study on brain-damaged mice found that fish oil can indeed repair damaged brain cells – and protect them from further damage. And a second study out of Paris found that fish oil made brain cells more malleable. That means they're more supple and able to transport nutrients in and out of the cell.

This last study is important. Taking fish oil by itself has tremendous healing abilities. But taking fish oil with other nutrients can have even more dramatic results. So consider taking your fish oil with turmeric and CoQ10. And then add the following two nutrients for added benefits.

How Fish Oil Can Supercharge These Nutrients

As you may know, some nutrients dissolve just fine in water. But other nutrients don’t. These nutrients need either alcohol or fats to help them dissolve effectively. We call these nutrients fat-soluble. Turmeric is one of these fat-soluble nutrients. CoQ10 is another. So taking turmeric and CoQ10 along with your fish oil helps your body absorb the nutrients even better. And since all three of these help the brain, you get a synergistic effect from them working together.

Two other fat-soluble nutrients you can use to help your brain are luteolin and palmitoylethanolamide (or PEA). I’ve talked a lot about these two nutrients in the past.

PEA is an amazing anti-inflammatory pain reliever. It can help cases of nerve pain that no other supplement can help. And luteolin is a powerful antioxidant. What most people don’t realize is that you can take these two nutrients, along with turmeric and CoQ10, with fish oil and see dramatic effects. The fish oil helps all of these work even better than they will work alone.

Here’s How They Fight Alzheimer’s and Other Brain Damage

As you may know, one of the characteristics of Alzheimer's disease is deposits of beta amyloid plaque. But why does the plaque build up in the first place? As I’ve discussed in the past, I suspect that the cause is similar to why cholesterol builds up in the arteries – inflammation. Without inflammation, the cholesterol flows through the blood vessels without any problems. And, according to the researchers in one study, the same could be true of beta amyloid. They said, “Numerous biochemical events, leading to beta amyloid neurotoxicity in Alzheimer’s disease, have been proposed and it seems that neuroinflammation plays a prominent role among these.”

But inflammation isn't the only reason. After all, we have to know why there's inflammation. As you may know, inflammation is the body's way of healing injuries. When you suffer a sprained ankle or knee, the joint becomes inflamed. The inflammation helps the injury heal. So when there's inflammation, we have to think injury. And the injury that commonly causes inflammation in the blood vessels is oxidative stress. Oxidative stress occurs when there are too many free radicals in your system — or they're out of balance — and your body doesn't handle them properly.

So the researchers in this study wanted to find out if luteolin and PEA could help reduce beta amyloid deposits. They used a proprietary blend of these two nutrients called “co-ultraPEALut.” The researchers tested the compound on both in vitro and ex vivo organotypic models of Alzheimer’s disease. For the in vitro model, they used human neuronal cells. They pretreated these cells with the compound for two hours. Then they introduced beta amyloid to the cells. After 24 hours, they evaluated the vitality of the cells. They did a similar type of preparation using hippocampal slice cultures for the organotypic model of Alzheimer's disease.

What they found was impressive. They said, “Pre-treatment with co-ultraPEALut significantly reduced inducible nitric oxide synthase and glial fibrillary acidic protein expression, restored neuronal nitric oxide synthase and brain derived neurotrophic factor and reduced the apoptosis. Taken together our results clearly showed that co-ultraPEALut is able to blunt beta amyloid-induced astrocyte activation and to exert a marked protective effect on glial cells. These findings suggest that the association of co-ultraPEALut may provide an effective strategy for Alzheimer’s disease.”

Why Take All of These Nutrients Together?

Since all of these nutrients are fat-soluble, it makes sense to take them with fish oil. The added fat will increase their absorption and their effectiveness. But that’s not the only reason to take them together. All of these nutrients work in different ways to affect the healing ability of the brain. So whether you suffer from Alzheimer’s, stroke damage, or some other traumatic injury, it’s time to give these nutrients a try.

Currently, there isn’t one supplement that has all of these nutrients in it – at least I can’t find one. And it really doesn’t matter if you take them separately or in one tablet. What matters is that you take all of them with your fish oil.

You’ll find that this combination of nutrients will help a lot more than just your brain. It will help your heart and it can help treat diabetes and a number of other illnesses. And if you’re in pain, you may find it’s completely gone after taking these nutrients.

These truly are five of the most incredible nutrients you can take. The best PEA formulation I’ve found is PEA-Min from Perfect Vitamin Products. There is a new supplement available that is similar to the ultraPEALut. It’s called Mirica and it is available at Amazon. I don’t have any experience with this particular company or formulation, but the product looks good.
