Indian spice stops blood clots 29 times more effectively than aspirin

Two weeks ago, I showed you how nattokinase can keep your blood from clotting and your arteries from clogging. But nattokinase isn’t the only supplement available that can help keep your blood flowing freely throughout your circulatory system.

Scientists from India regularly study the spices used in Indian food and the individual compounds extracted from these spices. These include clove, capsaicin, piperine, quercetin, and turmeric (curcumin). In one study, they looked at how these spices and compounds impact human platelet aggregation (clotting).

These scientists, from the Central Food Technological Research Institute, found that all of these spices and compounds are able to significantly inhibit blood clotting. However, two of the substances were especially effective.

Eugenol, which is the active compound in cloves, and capsaicin were the most potent inhibitors of arachidonic-acid-induced platelet aggregation. In fact, eugenol was 29 times more potent than aspirin in inhibiting this type of platelet aggregation. This is significant!

These researchers found that all of the tested spices and compounds showed varying degrees of clot-busting ability. So use plenty of cloves, capsaicin, curcumin, cinnamaldehyde, piperine, allyl sulphide, and quercetin in your foods.

You can also find most of these in supplement form at your local health food store or online.

One final note: You can get too much of a good thing with cloves. So make sure you follow the label instructions on dosage. And talk to your integrative physician if you have any questions about using it for your particular health challenges.
