Adaptogen Has Beneficial Effects on Physical and Mental Performance

Researchers conducted a review of 11 randomized placebo-controlled human studies on the adaptogen Rhodiola. Of these 11 studies, six investigated the effects of Rhodiola on physical performance. Four of them looked at mental performance. And two of them focused on patients diagnosed with a mental health condition. The researchers conducting the review considered all of the studies to be of moderate to good quality. And the participants experienced only a few mild adverse events, usually headaches. The reviewers found that the Rhodiola clearly had beneficial effects on physical performance, mental performance, and certain mental health conditions.

Researchers found that the more BMAL1 protein a mouse has in its muscles, the better the mouse slept, the longer it slept, and the better it recovered from sleep deprivation. But when the researchers removed the protein from the mice’s muscles severely disrupted their normal sleep patterns. It also increased their need for sleep and deeper sleep. And it reduced their ability to recover from sleep deprivation.

Snail Fever Progression Linked to Nitric Oxide Production

Researchers from the University of Salford in Manchester, England gave the Bilharzia parasite to a strain of rats that cannot make nitric oxide. This strain of rat is highly susceptible to infection and the severe pathology caused by the parasite. When the researchers returned nitric oxide levels to normal in these rats, they recover their natural resistance to the parasite.
