Researchers genetically modified mice to lack hepcidin. They found these mice were particularly susceptible to bacterial pneumonia. Nearly all of the mice with this modification had the pneumonia bacteria spread from the lungs into their bloodstream, ultimately killing them. This is how pneumonia spreads in people as well. Without the hormone, the mice weren’t able to hide iron away from the bacteria, allowing the pneumonia to spread.

Astaxanthin Switches on the FOX03 “Longevity Gene”

Researchers from the Department of Geriatric Medicine at the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine, found one simple nutrient can activate the FOX03 longevity gene.
