Midday slump: caffeine or nap?

Many people experience a midafternoon energy slump. Some try to power through it by drinking caffeine. Others take naps.

Neither solution is ideal.  If you drink too much caffeine, you can become jittery or wired. And if you nap for more than 30 minutes, you will go into a deep sleep and wake up feeling groggy.

So how do you keep yourself from sleeping more than 30 minutes? The answer is an ingenious solution called the caffeine nap.   You simply drink a cup of coffee, and then go right to bed and take a nap!

You see, it takes about 20 minutes for caffeine to kick in.  And that 20 minutes is the perfect amount of time for grabbing a quick power nap.

Once the caffeine kicks in, it will wake you up.  And you will feel energized and refreshed without feeling groggy.

Does It Really Work?

This isn’t just theory; it’s been tested in studies. Several studies have found that people who take caffeine naps:

• Perform better on tests
• Have better memory
• Make fewer mistakes
• Are more alert
• And have less stress

Do caffeine naps work for everyone?  No.  Some people are overly sensitive to caffeine. Other people simply have trouble napping.

But if you are someone who enjoys napping and enjoys coffee, try combining the two with a caffeine nap.  You may find that it leaves you well-rested and alert and that it supercharges your productivity for the rest of the afternoon.

Let me know how it goes for you.
