We all experience it! The great joy of indulging during the holidays. We eat some great food, drink a little too much alcohol, and eat way too many sweets.

But then comes the heartburn, indigestion, and stomach pain.

When it hits, the first place most people turn is to over-the-counter meds. But before you turn to all the popular treatments lined up on pharmacy shelves, there’s something else you can try.

It’s a common breakfast food that’s completely safe, natural, and works fast. And you probably already have it in your pantry.

Holiday feasting can load your stomach up with highly acidic foods that increase your stomach acid. When this stomach acid travels up toward the throat, it creates an unpleasant burning sensation. This can leave a nasty taste and can even cause pain.

Over-the-counter and prescription medications neutralize the stomach acid. This can ease the heartburn. But it can damage your ability to digest foods. You need that acid to dissolve the food you eat.

So don’t neutralize the acid – absorb it and use it as needed. And there’s an easy way to do exactly that. Just eat a little oatmeal!

It doesn’t take much. Simply take a teaspoon or two of uncooked oat flakes, and chew thoroughly before swallowing. That little bit of oatmeal absorbs the stomach acid. This keeps the acid from moving up into your throat and causing the burning pain.

But there’s more to it. The oatmeal keeps the acid in your stomach where it can continue to aid in digestion. It doesn’t neutralize the acid. It naturally keeps it in place so it can do its job better.

Plus, you get additional benefits from oatmeal. Oatmeal is high in fiber, which promotes healthy digestion and movement. It’s a prebiotic that feeds good bacteria in your gut.

And oatmeal is also high in selenium, which is a mineral that coats and protects the esophagus from painful acids.

If eating raw oatmeal sounds a bit dry, you can add a little almond milk to make it easier to chew and swallow.

But remember, it doesn’t take much. Just chew up a teaspoon or two and stop the heartburn in no time.
