When migraine headaches hit, they can incapacitate you for four hours to four days. The pain is so severe it can cause temporary blindness, vomiting, and extreme sensitivity to light and sound. And finding relief is your top priority.
Most painkillers won’t stop a migraine. So the best way to treat a migraine is to avoid it altogether. But a coal miner in Britain may have found the secret to treating and avoiding these extremely painful headaches in a simple herb.
This story really caught the medical establishment’s attention back in the 1990s. It was then that the wife of Britain’s chief medical officer for the National Coal Board suffered chronic migraines. When one of the miners heard about her problem, he came to her rescue. He told her that he had been chewing the leaves of the feverfew plant every day and it stopped his migraines.
Seeking any relief she could find, the woman tried the herb. She felt immediate relief. She continued the folk remedy and, 14 months later, she was completely free of the horrible headaches.
Naturally, this caught the attention of her husband, who told the story to Dr. E. Stewart Johnson of the City of London Migraine Clinic. This set off a series of studies that proved the efficacy of this herbal treatment. I’ll tell you more about those studies next week.

In the meantime, if you suffer from migraines, try feverfew. You can find it in supplement form at any health food store. It might take a few weeks or months to really take effect. So give it time. Most doctors recommend a dose of 100-300 mg daily.
