I’ve told you in the past that your feet have nerves that stretch to every part of your body. That’s why massaging your feet can completely relax you.
But what if I told you there’s a similar nerve structure in your belly button? And what if I told you it’s possible to use your belly button to treat all kinds of ailments and conditions?
You might think I’m crazy. Frankly, I thought it was crazy too – until I looked into it and tried it on a patient.
What happened is truly magical.
Megan was struggling with a cough that just wouldn’t go away. It was a dry cough that wasn’t producing any phlegm. It was aggravating her throat to the point that it was sore, red, and swollen.
I suggested she try laying down on her back, pour a little (maybe a half teaspoon) rubbing alcohol in her belly button and let it sit until dry. She has a small belly button, so she used a dropper and applied the rubbing alcohol slowly.
It didn’t take long to get a reaction. She started coughing uncontrollably. The cough was so bad, she stopped the treatment and stood up. As soon as she stood up, the coughing stopped and didn’t come back for several hours.
When it did come back, it was much better than before, and she noticed it was productive. So she tried it again.
Each time, she got the same reaction – only less severe than the last time. And each time, she would stand up, the cough would disappear. By the next day, her cough was almost completely gone.
Why the Belly Button?
The belly button is at the center of your body and is the focal point for all of the body’s meridians in acupuncture.
Plus, the belly button is directly connected to the vagus nerve. The vagus nerve is a long and complex nerve that runs from the brain to the abdomen. Along the way, it branches out into several major organs. These include heart, lungs, and much of your digestive system.
This nerve also connects with your mouth and throat, which may explain why treating the belly button can stop a cough.
And, finally, the belly button is also connected to quite a few arteries and veins. So its ability to move therapeutics directly into your bloodstream is similar to the area under your tongue. The biggest difference is the belly button lets you use products that shouldn’t be used orally, but still have benefits.
For instance, you shouldn’t put rubbing alcohol in your mouth. But it’s fine in your belly button. The same is true for many essential oils. And it works for products that might have a taste you don’t like, such as fish oil or CBD.
The fact that the belly button has direct access to the digestive system is important, as it’s a great way to send nutrients straight to your gut.
So if you have an upset stomach, gas, spasms, nausea, travel sickness, colic, or irritable bowel, try applying a little peppermint oil to your belly button. It’s okay if you spread it a little (maybe a half inch) beyond the belly button. Using the oil this way can bring relief faster than just about any other treatment.
Don’t Stop With Digestion
The benefits of this belly-button cure go far beyond the mouth, throat, and digestive tract. Here are a few other treatments you can try.
If you suffer from pain, try putting a little CBD oil on your belly button and see if it helps.
If your eyesight is getting a little blurry, try rubbing sesame oil on your belly button. The omega fatty acids in the sesame oil can help heal the eyes.
If you’re under a lot of stress, try using some relaxing essential oils, such as cinnamon bark, thyme, or cardamom.
And if you need to boost your immune system, try clove, lemon, tea tree, or eucalyptus oil.
The applications are endless. If you find an essential oil that works for particular issues in a diffuser, it will likely work faster through your belly button. For best results, leave the treatment on for about 20 minutes.
A warning: Some essential oils are too strong to apply directly to your skin. You can still use them, but you’ll need to put them in a carrier oil, such as coconut or olive oil. It makes the essential oil last longer and it works just as effectively. Plus, these oils have their own benefits.
One last tip: There are some medications that can be absorbed through your belly button as well. For instance, if you’re feeling nauseated or have a headache, try putting an aspirin in your belly button and see if it helps relieve the issue. This is a much better way to use aspirin, as it won’t cause bleeding in your gut.
The belly button truly is magical. Give this treatment a try and let me know how it works for you.
