If you love ice cream as much as I do, you’re going to love what I’m about to tell you.
As you may know, most ice cream is filled with sugar and terrible for your waistline and teeth.
But what if you could make an ice cream that’s actually good for you? And what if that same ice cream could help prevent cavities?
Believe it or not, your dream (and mine) has come true.
Here’s the recipe:
• 1 cup milk kefir
• 2 cups whipping cream
• 2 Tbsp milk kefir grains (available at Amazon and other retailers)
• 1/4 – 1/2 cup real maple syrup (the darker the better)
• 1 Tbsp vanilla extract
• 1 pinch of salt
• 4 capsules of probiotics
In a bowl, mix all the kefir grains with the whipping cream and let it culture for 8-10 hours. When it’s ready (it will have a thick, creamy consistency), remove the grains and empty the 4 probiotics capsules into the whipping cream. Then add the other ingredients and mix together, stirring lightly.
Cool the mixture in the fridge for 3 hours. Then put it into your favorite ice cream maker.
Follow the instructions on your ice cream maker. Then seal it up in an airtight container and put into the freezer for 2 hours. You can then serve it as you would normal ice cream.
This recipe makes about 4 cups of ice cream. So if your ice cream maker holds more, feel free to double or triple the recipe.
You can also add any of these flavors to the ice cream mixture:
• ¾ cup of cocoa powder
• 1 cup of peanut or almond butter
• Lemon, lime, or orange zest (2 tablespoons)
• Spices, such as chai, cardamom, or pumpkin (1 tablespoon)
• Stevia, if you prefer your ice cream sweeter
As you may know, milk kefir has probiotics in it. You already know how great probiotics are for your gut and overall health. But one study out of India found that adding them to ice cream helps fight cavities and gum disease.
In fact, the oral protection is much better than when you take the probiotics as a capsule or tablet. By using milk kefir along with added probiotics, you get even better protection.
So give this recipe a try and let me know what you think. And if you have other suggestions for flavors, I’d love to hear about them.
