I’ve told you in the past that you need to eat 30 grams of fiber every day. But, unless you eat tons of vegetables and beans, getting that much every day is tough.
Fortunately, there’s one supplement that can give you an entire day’s worth of fiber.
What is this fiber supplement?
It’s gum Arabic. Gum Arabic is the sap from the acacia tree. It’s commonly used as a filler in baked goods. And it’s a fabulous prebiotic that’s highly effective for feeding the good bacteria in your gut.
One study found that taking 10 grams a day causes a significant increase in Bifidobacteria, Lactobacteria and Bacteriodes bacteria in the gut. So taking gum Arabic can make your probiotic a lot more effective.
Another great thing about gum Arabic is that you can take up to 30 grams a day. And it’s cheap!
You can buy the powder in bulk online. Since it’s water soluble, just mix it in a glass of water and drink it. And feel free to add it to your baked goods for additional fiber.
You can buy gum Arabic in pill form. They’re more expensive, but a lot of people like to take pills instead of a powder.
Since it can cause a little stomach bloating, start with a smaller dose (2-10 grams daily) and then, if you want to, take more after the first week. Take it in divided doses 10-30 minutes before each meal.
