It happens whenever my family goes on a picnic. We find the perfect picnic table, spread out the tablecloth, pull out the food, and out of nowhere they appear – yellow jackets.
No matter how much we swat, cover the food, and spray repellant, they still attack. And it seems someone (usually me) gets stung.
Wouldn’t you love to enjoy a picnic over the long 4th of July weekend and not worry about yellow jackets?
It’s a lot easier than you might think.
Go to Amazon or your local store and buy a spray bottle.
In that bottle combine the following:
• Water
• Dish soap
• Peppermint oil
That’s all you need. Put a little dish soap in the spray bottle and add the water. You should get suds pretty quickly, so fill the bottle about halfway or maybe a little more (until the suds reach the top).
Then add 4-8 drops of peppermint oil per cup of water. If you can't smell the peppermint, it's probably not strong enough. Continue adding the oil a couple drops at a time until you have a mixture with a noticeable odor. Shake before each use.
Spray the mixture around your picnic table before you put your tablecloth down. Feel free to spray a little on the tablecloth once you’ve spread it over the table.
Yellow jackets and wasps hate the smell of peppermint. So the mixture will keep them away.
But here’s what’s great about this spray. If some of the pests decide to visit anyway, spray the mixture directly on them. It will kill most wasps almost immediately after contact.
Enjoying a 4th of July picnic yellow-jacket-free is really that easy. Plus, it’s completely safe for humans and pets too.
