If you've noticed your hearing isn't what it used to be, you might want to check your medicine cabinet for the cause. That's because several medications, including many common ones, are ototoxic. This means they can damage parts of the ear and nerves that are critical to your ability to perceive sound.
What's surprising about the list of drugs that can cause hearing loss is how common these drugs are. The list starts with common antibiotics, including erythromycin, minocycline, and streptomycin (among others). Other common drugs include popular erectile dysfunction drugs, such as sildenafil (Viagra), tadalafil (Cialis), and vardenafil (Levitra).
But the most common drugs that destroy your hearing are the NSAID painkillers. These include aspirin (Anacin and Bayer Aspirin), ibuprofen (Advil, Midol Liquid Gels, and Motrin), and naproxen (Aleve). The worst offender in the NSAID group, though, was celecoxib. This is the controversial Celebrex, which can cause heart disease and strokes even in healthy people. And it can cause stomach bleeding so severe it can be fatal.
As if that weren't enough, there are other drugs on the list. These include oral antifungals, gout drugs, and some diuretics.

Obviously, the best way to keep these drugs from damaging your hearing is to completely avoid the drugs. Celebrex, in particular, is one you should avoid at all costs, as it can cause serious damage and even death.
Fortunately, there are safer alternatives for most of these issues. For instance, many men find CircO2 can help with erectile dysfunction. Natural antibiotics include grapefruit seed extract, garlic, oil of oregano, colloidal silver, and Manuka honey. And Reduloxin or Ultimate Knee Relief can help with inflammation and pain. Though its name suggests it works only for knee pain, Ultimate Knee Relief can help with many types of pain without the side effects seen in NSAIDs.
Finally, if you're looking for ways to protect your ears or help them heal from damage already done, try Advanced Hearing Formula. There are many studies that suggest the nutrients in this formula can not only repair hearing loss, but even reverse it!
