If you love certain foods, you may have jokingly said, "I'm addicted to it." Well, believe it or not, you might be. That's because new research is showing that certain foods have addictive properties to them. Fortunately, there's a way to do away with the addiction.
The first food you might think is addictive is sugar. And yes, it is. Sugar actually hijacks your brain chemicals and makes you addicted to it. But sugar isn't the only food that can be addictive. In fact, two of the most addictive foods are cheese and gluten.
Drusen is normal in small amounts, especially in people over age 40. However, as the number of drusen and their size goes up, it makes your eyes more susceptible to age-related macular degeneration. So consider your daughter fortunate, in that she found the accumulation before it progressed to macular degeneration.
Cheese is so addictive, that researchers in a new study suggest it's akin to crack cocaine. Obviously, the physical harm it causes isn't usually as bad. But its ability to hook you is every bit as strong as the street drug.
In this study, the researchers wanted to find out if foods are addictive, and if so, why. They had a pretty good idea that certain foods are more addictive than others. But they didn't know the reason. So they had about 500 people complete the Yale Food Addiction Scale, which was designed to measure if someone has a food addiction.

Not surprisingly, the most addictive food is pizza. The reason, said the researchers, has to do with the cheese. And the reason is because of the way it's processed. The researchers found that the more processed and fatty the food, the more addictive it is. But it's not just the processing that causes cheese to be addictive. Cheese has a protein called casein, which releases opiates called casomorphins during digestion. Opiates, as you may know, are highly addictive.
But cheese isn't the only reason pizza is addictive. Gluten is a protein that also has addictive properties. James Braly, MD wrote in his book Dangerous Grains that gluten can be very hard to digest. These undigested partial proteins have morphine-like properties, which become potent drugs once they enter the bloodstream. This causes a pleasant feeling that can encourage cravings for the food.
I believe there are three things you need to help avoid the addiction and the allergy to these foods. First, you need probiotics, such as Advanced Probiotic Formula. Keeping your gut filled with good bacteria can help fight the problems these foods cause. Second, you need to make sure you're taking enough minerals. Food allergies and addictions often occur in people with mineral deficiencies. Third, you need to take additional vitamin B6. Your brain needs vitamin B6 to make serotonin. This important neurotransmitter makes you feel happy, contented, and satisfied. Without it, you're more likely to fall for drugs released by these foods. With it, your body doesn't crave these foods as much because you already feel good.
