Some vegetarian diets provide as much as 20 mg daily without any evidence of neurological problems. And some studies have used short-term doses of 40 mg daily. However, most of you just need to take enough to replenish your deficiency. For most people 2-3 mg daily is sufficient. This dose is unlikely to cause any side effects.
