You probably already know how important iodine is for your body. It's so important, in fact, that a deficiency can cause all sorts of problems. These can include frustration, depression, mental retardation, poor perception levels, goiter, abnormal weight gain, decreased fertility, coarse skin, chances of stillbirth in expectant mothers, constipation, and fatigue. So you might think that taking more iodine is all you need to do to fix these problems. In many cases, this is true. But there's more to this story.
Just about everyone in modern society is iodine deficient. Many doctors who used to test for iodine deficiency have stopped testing because everyone they tested was deficient. So these doctors recommend anyone with symptoms of low thyroid function start by taking iodine. Trouble is not everyone responds to the iodine supplement. Here's one reason why:
Iodine is so important to every cell in your body that God created a hormone specifically for the purpose of carrying it into your cells. In other words, iodine is vital for creating the thyroid hormone that it needs to carry the mineral to the rest of your body. If you're deficient, it's a double whammy. Not only will your body not produce enough thyroid hormone, it won't be able to get into the cells of your body.

It's also possible that your cell receptors for iodine can become dysfunctional. Much like your cells can develop an insulin resistance, there are a growing number of doctors who believe that your cells can become resistant or sensitive to iodine. When this happens, you may need to detoxify your body, as toxins are the usual culprit in causing iodine resistance.
Another reason your body may not respond to iodine is that your thyroid isn't producing enough hormone even with the boost in iodine. This means you don't have enough of the hormone to transport the iodine into your cells.
If you've taken iodine and didn't see any improvement, then consider detoxing first. Then consider taking a thyroid supplement, such as Thyrovanz, along with your iodine. You'll also want to make sure you're taking a high quality iodine supplement. The only brand I recommend is Iodoral. Taking both of these together might give you even better results than taking one or the other. You might see your fatigue melt away, have more sustainable energy levels, and lose weight. You may even notice changes in the health of your skin.
