Researchers from Cardiff University in Wales examined the spice frankincense for its benefits in treating joint pain. They showed that an extract of Boswellia frereana, which is a rare species of frankincense, inhibits the production of key inflammatory molecules. These inflammatory molecules cause the breakdown of the cartilage tissue, which results in arthritis pain. By stopping this process, frankincense can ease the pain.

Zinc Acetate Shortens Duration of Common Cold Even When Allergies Are Present

Researchers looked at three studies involving 199 people (mostly women) who had a cold. One-third of these patients had allergies. Each of these patients took zinc acetate until their cold symptoms disappeared. The researchers found that it didn’t matter if the participants had allergies or smoked. It also didn’t matter how bad the cold was at the start of the study. The zinc shortened the cold by two to three days.

Regular and Decaffeinated Coffee Can Lower Liver Enzymes

Researchers found that when participants drank three or more cups of coffee a day, their liver enzymes were lower than those of participants who did not drink any coffee. They didn't find any differences between participants who drank regular or decaf coffee.
